Words...

I will miss George Carlin. Not just for being one of the best and funniest voices of reason for many decades, but because the was a personal influence in my writing and thinking.

He made me realize the fun that could be had with words and language in general. When I was an impressionable preteen, I caught one of his stand-up routines in which he was talking about the fun that could be had with words and the endless possibilities of connecting them.

He said, "I'll bet I can say three phrases you've never heard in your life right now."

1. "I'm pregnant, you're the father and I'm going to kill all three of us."

2. "Do what you want to the woman, but leave me alone."

3. "After I stick this hot poker up my ass, I'm going to cut my dick off."

I'll miss you, George.
